Tiny Core Linux 4.0: The Fastest and Smallest Linux Distro Just Got Better

The highly anticipated Tiny Core Linux 4.0 has finally been released, bringing with it a host of new and improved features. For those who are not familiar with Tiny Core Linux, it is a fully functional Linux distribution that is designed to have the smallest possible footprint – in fact, the entire distro is only about 10 MB!

New and Updated Packages

The latest major release of Tiny Core Linux includes updated packages, including the switch to the newest Linux 3.0.3 kernel. But that’s not all, there are plenty of other updated packages as well, such as udev 173, Embedded GLIBC 2.13 (now with support for 486 and 586 machines), e2fsprogs 1.41.14 libraries, GCC 4.6.1 base libraries, and more. Busybox 1.19.2 has also been updated with the latest patches and nbd-client.

Improved Search Functionality

One of the most interesting new features in Tiny Core Linux 4.0 is the improved search functionality. Now, users can simply start typing what they’re looking for in both AppBrowser and ab, the command-line tool for AppBrowser. This new search feature not only works for individual packages but also for categories as well. For example, if you type ‘abi’, you will find AbiWord, and if you type ‘browser’, you will see a list of all available web browsers.

Deprecated Tools

The newest release of Tiny Core Linux also deprecates several rarely used tools, such as the Floppy Tool. This allows for a more streamlined and efficient user experience.

About Tiny Core Linux
